A Senior Clinical Coder oversees the practice of using patient information to create coding classifications. These classifications are used for data collection and research purposes. A Senior Clinical Coder leads a team of coders as they analyse patient records and assign codes to procedures and treatments. Where relevant criteria are met, coders use codes to understand the procedures taking place a health facility.
Senior Clinical Coders should have strong leadership skills and be able to work as part of a team. Communication skills are important and you’ll also need strong analytical skills. Senior Clinical Coders should have excellent attention to detail and a thorough understanding of medical terminology. You’ll need to follow correct policies and procedures and should be able to manage your time well.
