What is Construction Skills Queensland funding?
If you are a Queensland building or construction industry worker looking to broaden your skills or re-enter the industry, you could be eligible to have part of your training funded under the Construction Skills Queensland program.
Created by the industry for the industry, the funding covers up to 75 per cent of the cost of eligible short courses and higher qualifications, along with skills assessment and gap training.
What is Construction Skills Queensland?
Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that is funded by the building and construction industry.
Its aim is to support workers, apprentices, trainees, employers, and job seekers within the sector by promoting careers, subsidising training, and also providing thought leadership.
With a focus on attracting new entrants and developing and retaining existing workers, the CSQ’s mission is to make training affordable.
The organisation is funded via a 0.1 per cent levy charged on all Queensland construction projects worth more than $150,000, and these funds are then channelled into training and upskilling.
How the funding works
CSQ funding covers up to 75 per cent of eligible courses and accreditations, with the funds paid directly to select registered training organisations (RTOs) in Queensland.
The funding applies to three key areas:
- Short courses
- Higher qualifications
- Skills assessment and gap training
CSQ-funded short courses
CSQ short course funding helps construction and building industry workers update their existing skills, gain new skills, meet compliance requirements, or attain a specific licence.
The funding is available to eligible participants who are currently working in the industry, and also those looking to enter or re-enter the sector.
CSQ-funded higher qualifications
The higher qualifications program helps construction industry workers advance to the next level in their careers.
From Certificate IV up to Advanced Diplomas, the program provides nationally accredited qualifications.
CSQ-funded skills assessment and gap training
For those who have experience in the industry, but lack a formal qualification, the skills assessment and gap training (SAGT) program is designed to assist.
This initiative assesses your current skills, identifies any gaps and provides nationally recognised training that allows your experience to be formally recognised with a Certificate III level qualification.
How do you apply?
If you’re looking to apply for CSQ-funded training, the full list of eligible courses is available on the CSQ website here.
You must then select a registered training organisation that’s a recipient of the CSQ funding, and express your interest.
Each registered training organisation will assess your eligibility, and if you’re successful, up to 75 per cent of the training cost will be paid directly to the training organisation by CSQ.
Eligibility criteria
The CSQ-funded training programs are open to an array of people associated with the Queensland building and construction industry, including:
- People currently working in the sector
- Those seeking to re-enter the sector within six months; and
- Industry workers who are in between contracts for a period of less than six months
There is no age limit for those eligible for the CSQ funding initiative.
