The Diploma of Building and Construction is a practical course that covers common practical skills and knowledge required for the building and construction industry. Training and assessment is delivered by registered builders in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment.
After successfully completing this qualification you will have all the required knowledge to apply to become a registered builder in the class of Domestic Builder (Unlimited) with the Victorian Building Authority. The maximum duration for this program is 13 months part time.
The diploma is suitable for those with experience or who are currently working in the building and construction industry. If you are new to the industry with less than three years’ work experience, the Dual Qualification is recommended.
There are no prerequisites, however you should be employed within the building and construction industry.
You should also hold the unit CPCWHS1001 Work Safely in the construction industry (White Card) before commencing this program, or within four weeks of commencing. NCT can refer you to quality providers that deliver this unit.

The Certificate IV in Competitive Systems and Practices reflects the role of team leaders or those in similar job roles who are responsible for the implementation and monitoring of competitive systems and practices to improve efficiency in a team or work area and own work role. Individuals apply broad knowledge and analytical skills to facilitate change and improve efficiency. It is designed to suit general manufacturing, basic assembly lines, and jobbing shops.
Training and assessment for this qualification is delivered to employees in the workplace where there is a need to learn and implement improvement processes across the entire organisation.
In this course participants will undertake practical workplace improvement projects that focus on implementing Lean concepts and sustainable improvements to manufacturing environments. These projects are tailored to suit real areas of improvement within the workplace.
Training for this qualification is conducted in the workplace over a maximum of 18 months.
This program is suitable for non-manufacturing employees working in a manufacturing company or other business. with significant experience of 5 years and over who can lead projects and work unsupervised in their job roles.
This qualification assumes that a learner has current or past work experience where operational or technical skills have already been gained and a supervisory or similar level of responsibility exists. This qualification is not suitable for direct entry from school or new entrants to the manufacturing industry who have no previous training or experience in manufacturing.
There are no prerequisites, however, National Training Services offers this qualification as a work-based training and assessment program and therefore applicants must be employed in a suitable manufacturing company.
Additionally, they will need to have the support of their employer to undertake the training and assessment program.

At this level, operators/technicians would undertake more advanced operations, typically of integrated plant units in accordance with the operating procedures. They would be able to apply their knowledge to anticipate problems.
They would be expected to solve a range of foreseen and unforeseen problems, using product and process knowledge to develop solutions to problems which do not have a known solution, or a solution recorded in the procedures.
In this course participants will undertake practical workplace improvement projects that focus on implementing Lean concepts and sustainable improvements to manufacturing environments. These projects are tailored to suit real areas of improvement within the workplace.
Training for this qualification is conducted in the workplace over a maximum of 18 months.
This qualification is only offered as a traineeship.
The program is suitable for manufacturing employees with significant experience of around 4 to 5 years minimum. Where there is a cohort with a mixture of experience at a worksite a small percentage of recent employees and apprentices with some manufacturing experience can be accommodated in the program.
This qualification assumes that a learner has current or past work experience where operational or technical skills have already been gained and a supervisory or similar level of responsibility exists. It is not suitable for direct entry from school, or new entrants to the manufacturing industry who have no previous training or experience in manufacturing.
There are no prerequisites, however, National Training Services offers this qualification as a work-based training and assessment program and therefore applicants must be employed in a suitable manufacturing company.

The qualifications offered in conjunction with MSM40116 Certificate IV in Process Manufacturing are:
- MSS40322 – Certificate IV in Competitive Systems and Practices
- PMA40116 – Certificate IV in Process Plant Technology
The course is suitable for:
- Advanced production workers who use a range of equipment and are involved in solving complex problems that need theoretical knowledge, combined with an understanding of operating procedures directly related to producing products; or
- Advanced production workers who operate across more than one category within process manufacturing or other product conversion processes in manufacturing
This qualification assumes that a learner has current or past work experience where operational or technical skills have already been gained and a supervisory or similar level of responsibility exists. It is not suitable for direct entry from school, or new entrants to the manufacturing industry who have no previous training or experience in manufacturing.
Training for this qualification is conducted in the workplace over 18 months.

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on floors and walls, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.
This course is delivered on the job, allowing participants to learn, validate, and improve their skills and knowledge within their trade.
This qualification is suitable for those who are currently undertaking wall and floor tiling tasks in the building and construction industry and are looking to become qualified to advance their career, and in preparation for the introduction of new Victorian Building Authority trades registration requirements which have been approved by the Victorian Government.
This qualification is delivered on the job for 13 months

Training for these qualifications is conducted on the job over 17 months.
There are no prerequisites, however you must be employed in a position undertaking civil construction plant operations and concreting tasks. This could be within the building and construction industry in civil construction areas such as establish infrastructure on land subdivision sites.
