Mediator

Mediators are trained professionals who conduct mediation between disputing groups and individuals. They help each party identify and assess their options, acting as an impartial facilitator while they negotiate an agreement. In Australia, Mediators are accredited under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS).

As a professional Mediator you could be mediating between a manufacturer and a supplier, a landlord and tenant, family members who are disputing an estate, a community group in dispute over land use, an employer and employee disputing wrongful dismissal, and many other situations.

To be successful in this career you’ll need outstanding communication, empathy, and negotiation skills. You’ll also need a calm disposition with the ability to remain neutral in conflict situations.
