Studying HLT33115 - Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, Assisting in nursing work in acute care allows you to specialise as an Assistant in Nursing in the acute care environment.

Acute care is the term used for the care of patients generally provided in a hospital for short term treatment. This care is usually required for a severe illness, following surgery or as a result of an injury. This means you will have the opportunity to work in acute care facilities such as your local hospital.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course covers a broad range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to a casualty. The emergency situations can be in the home, workplace or within the community, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. Most workplaces require a specific number of people to successfully complete this qualification. Charter Care recommends, in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed at least every three years and CPR skills every 12 months.​

HLTHPS007 – Administer and monitor medications describes the skills and knowledge required to administer medications to people and monitor them, as per the delegation from a relevant health professional, in accordance with legislation and the employing organisation’s medication policies and practice.

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. The course applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Charter Australia  recommends, in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that CPR skills are renewed at least every 12 months.

HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants and children in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.

This skill set provides individuals working in a range of industry and work setting contexts with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply basic infection prevention and control principles including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to risks.

Infection prevention and control is a matter of concern for every business regardless of industry sector or location and is not limited to aged care or medical industry businesses.
