About COVE Training

The Traffic Control course teaches the basic theory of traffic controlling as well as the selection, maintenance and correct use of the appropriate traffic control equipment. This course is intended for applicants in Utilities sector, surveying industry, event workers and volunteers.

This course covers essential skills for managing traffic and maintaining safety in work zones. You will learn to effectively plan and prepare, monitor traffic flow, assess the effectiveness of guidance schemes, and control traffic to safeguard work crews during the removal of traffic control devices. Additionally, you'll gain insights into cleaning up work areas in compliance with management plans, ensuring a thorough understanding of all operational aspects necessary for maintaining safety and efficiency on site.

In this course, you will receive initial training as per Energy Safe Victoria's requirements. It qualifies you to be authorized as a No Go Zone Spotter, responsible for worksite safety observation. The course focuses on developing your competency in observing and alerting personnel about the dangers of approaching overhead and underground power lines, as well as other electrical equipment. This role is critical for ensuring safety around electrical hazards on construction sites and similar environments.

In this course, you will learn essential skills such as planning and preparing for excavation operations, conducting thorough pre-operational checks on machinery, proficiently operating the equipment, safely lifting, carrying, and placing materials, selecting, removing, and fitting attachments, relocating the machine as required, performing routine operator maintenance, and ensuring site cleanup is completed to standard.

This course will prepare you to work safely in the construction industry by teaching you the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to doing construction work. As such, this course is full of essential information to ensure you can work safely and productively and will assess you on your capacity to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements.

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform (Scissor Lift), up to 11m.

A Scissor Lift is not classified as requiring a High-Risk Work Licence from WorkSafe Victoria.

This course is available for beginners, intermediate, and advanced operators. In this course you will learn the skills and knowledge required to operate a skid steer loader to load, haul, and distribute materials.

This course covers essential skills for operating an Elevating Work Platform (EWP) safely and effectively. Participants will learn procedures for safe operation, including implementing traffic management plans and complying with emergency protocols. They will gain competence in conducting operational checks on an EWP, verifying compliance with reach and load requirements through the compliance plate and load chart. The course also focuses on controlling and operating a boom-type EWP with an emphasis on safety, smooth operations, and adherence to operating standards.

In this course, you will learn essential skills such as selecting the appropriate slinging method and lifting gear for safe lifting procedures, conducting thorough inspections of lifting equipment, and effectively directing crane operators using verbal, hand, and whistle signals. You will also gain proficiency in various slinging methods using flexible steel wire rope, chains, and synthetic slings. Additionally, the course covers adapting dogging techniques safely in diverse weather and site conditions.

COVE Training offers the following combinations:

• A prime mover with a minimum of three axles and a semi-trailer with a minimum of two axles – vehicle must have a GVM rating of at least 24 tonnes.
• A heavy rigid vehicle towing a trailer – trailer must have at least two axles and a GVM of 12 tonnes or more.

A Heavy Rigid Vehicle is a vehicle 8 tonnes GVM and above, with 3 or more axles, including truck & bus.

The Heavy Rigid Licence course has been custom designed to develop vital driving skills and knowledge necessary to successfully gaining your heavy rigid licence.

It includes:

• Systematically and efficiently controlling all vehicle functions
• Monitoring traffic and road conditions
• Managing vehicle condition and performance

A Medium Rigid vehicle is any 2 axle rigid vehicle, including truck & bus, greater than 8 tones GVM.

The Medium Rigid Truck Licence course is custom designed to develop the essential truck driving skills and knowledge necessary to successfully obtain a Medium Rigid Licence. The course includes:

• Managing vehicle condition and performance
• Effectively managing hazardous situations

Gain your Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) 2 course with COVE Training. The TMI2 course will teach you the skills to work on high-volume roads. Our experienced team has been training Victoria’s traffic management workforce for over 20 years.

Here's what you’ll learn:

• This nationally recognised course covers theoretical and practical aspects of working safely at heights.
• During the course, we will assist you to develop safe work method statements and risk assessments for working at heights.
• All workers who conduct or supervise tasks whilst at height will find this course beneficial to workplace safety.
• This course will enable you to comply with current WHS legislation with successful trainees receiving a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
• This course is designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills to safely work in any height situation, primarily being aimed at general construction, maintenance, mining, large factories or other work situations where work is conducted in a place where a fall from one level to another is possible.

In this course, you will gain the ability to operate a truck or trailer-mounted attenuator on at least two occasions at three different road sites, at least one of which will be a mobile or progressively moving work situation.

In this course, you will acquire essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills, including checking truck and attenuator controls for serviceability, positioning traffic controls, conducting thorough pre-operational checks on trucks and attenuators, performing risk assessment and management, applying National Guidelines and Standards, and communicating effectively to receive and clarify work instructions. These skills are vital for success in the field and will equip you for a rewarding career in the industry.

This light rigid licence course involves the skills and knowledge required to obtain a licence to drive a light rigid vehicle.

It includes:

• Systematically and efficiently controlling all vehicle functions
• Monitoring traffic and road conditions
• Managing vehicle condition and performance
• Effectively managing hazardous situations

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be provided with a Certificate of Competence which needs to be taken to VicRoads to process an official licence.
