This qualification describes the skills and knowledge required by personnel who are planning their pathway to becoming a mine statutory official such as a mine undermanager. These persons assist in the management of an underground coal mine and perform tasks involving a high level of autonomy that require the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment/roles/techniques for themselves and others. They are required to demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning and implement safety management plans.
Learn moreThis qualification reflects the roles of individuals, including mine supervisors or deputies, working in underground coal mines, who perform tasks involving a broad range of day-to-day, operational activities in their area of responsibility. They are responsible for ensuring a safe work environment through applying the safety and health management system for a mine, including monitoring the quantity and quality of output, supervising others and applying solutions to non-routine problems.

Learn moreOur Fire Officers training course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to inspect and maintain the fire-fighting system at an operating mine site. This training will be suitable for workers who may be required to inspect and maintain fire extinguishers, fire depots, hydrants, and fire sub-stations. It will also give awareness of techniques in training of colliery fire teams.
This course is taught by highly experienced personnel who have previously worked as Mines Rescue Instructors and/or as a Colliery Fire Officer.

- develop a underground lifting plan
- confirm and check elimination/control measures for hazards associated with the work
- label unserviceable equipment, materials and tools in accordance with site rules
- select and prepare appropriate anchors in the underground environment
- direct the movement of the load in an underground environment using standard signals for load moving
- ensure stability of the load by application of load movement procedure, temporary bracing and/or load support
- correctly place and secure the load
- dismantle and remove/restore load shifting equipment
This qualification reflects the role of individuals, including mine managers or mining engineering managers, who perform complex, nonroutine tasks involving strategic and planning activities for underground coal mines. They are responsible for establishing and maintaining operational systems and plans, including safety and health, environmental and management systems, providing leadership and mentoring to others, and understanding and management requirements for mine sites.
