Deakin’s Doctor of Medicine takes you beyond the classroom to work with patients and their families across western Victoria. You’ll learn how medicine is practised in rural areas, while building valuable relationships with communities that will really value and welcome you once you graduate.

The course shines a light on Indigenous Health and will help you broaden your perspective on clinical medicine to encompass public health, legal and ethical perspectives.

Admission Criteria:

Selection is based on a holistic consideration of your academic merit, work experience, likelihood of success, availability of places, participation requirements, regulatory requirements, and individual circumstances. Meeting the minimum course entry requirements is necessary for consideration, but it does not guarantee admission.

English Language Proficiency Requirements:

To meet the English language proficiency requirements of this course, you will need to demonstrate at least one of the following:

  • Bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country
  • IELTS overall score of 7.0 (with no band score less than 7.0) in each component of the test
  • Other evidence of English language proficiency

International Applicants Selection Criteria:

International applicants apply through the Deakin University Applicant Portal and are selected based on the following factors:

  • Academic performance in an approved bachelor, honours, graduate certificate, graduate diploma, or masters by coursework. A final GPA (weighted) of 5.0 or greater, calculated on the most recent three full-time-equivalent years (FTE) of study.
  • Performance in the GAMSAT or MCAT^:
    • GAMSAT: Minimum score of 50 in each of the three sections and an overall score of 50 or greater. GAMSAT score must be obtained within four years of the application.
    • MCAT: Score of 125 or greater in each of the four sections. MCAT score must be obtained within four years of the application.
  • Performance in an interview~
