Bachelor of Nutrition Science
Nationally Recognised Higher EducationThe Bachelor of Nutrition Science provides a strong grounding in areas including nutrition science, food chemistry, biochemistry, and metabolism, as well as training in nutrition research. You will be able to apply your knowledge to a range of community settings. These include working with organisations and industries to create better nutritional standards and policies, undertaking research, and working with communities to support health through improved nutrition. The program is designed to meet the prerequisite requirements for admission into the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics, which is required to be eligible for the credential of Accredited Practising Dietitian.>

Non-ATAR Admission Options:
UOW offers non-ATAR admissions with an individual approach to assessing potential for academic success. Students are evaluated based on key qualities across academic readiness, motivation & passion, planning & persistence, and communication & collaboration.
- Early Admission: Students may be admitted via Early Admission.
- Access UOW: AccessUOW scheme considers individual circumstances and HSC achievements related to the chosen degree. Criteria include geographical location, school attended, disability status, and Indigenous identification.
- Portfolio Admission: Admission based on an interview and completed portfolio meeting the Australian Qualifications Framework.
- Woolyungah Indigenous Centre’s Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP): An alternative pathway for Indigenous Australians over 17, considering academic and non-academic qualities through application and interview.
ATAR-Based Admission Options:
Guaranteed Entry Selection Ranks:
- Minimum ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Interstate equivalent (e.g., Victoria’s ENTER or Queensland OP)
- Results in an overseas qualification deemed equivalent to Australian year 12
The minimum score for guaranteed entry is an ATAR-Selection Rank of 75 or an IB of 26, including adjustment factors.
Adjustment Factors:
Consideration of subjects, location, equity, and access schemes to adjust selection rank in combination with ATAR. UOW's adjustment factors are applied.
Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Studies:
The University assumes students have studied Mathematics and any 2 units of science. It recommends studying Chemistry and Biology. Bridging courses are available for those who haven't completed Chemistry and/or Biology in the HSC.
Other Admission Criteria:
- Vocational Education & Training (VET): Applicants with a minimum AQF Certificate IV considered. Grades converted to a selection rank.
- Higher Education Study: Half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a Bachelor's degree level or higher. Grades converted to a selection rank. Credit for prior learning possible.
- Work & Life Experience: Generally, work or life experience is not considered. Pathway programs or alternative admissions tests (e.g., Special Tertiary Admissions Test) recommended for those who do not meet academic requirements.
Credit for Prior Learning:
If learning outcomes are met through prior tertiary or TAFE qualifications, credit for prior learning may be awarded.
