La Trobe's Bachelor of Food and Nutrition will equip you with the skills and knowledge to work with people, communities and organisations to prevent many chronic diseases. Designed by leading nutrition experts and in collaboration with industry, you'll get a practical hands-on experience while exploring a range of topics such as environmental sustainability of our food system, sustainable diets, food product development, culture and food, and nutrition and disease. You'll have the opportunity to study in modern science labs and commercial kitchens.

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.

Applicant with Current or Recent Secondary Education (within the Last Two Years)

Prerequisite:

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Applicant with Higher Education Study

Prerequisite:

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Successful completion of at least the equivalent of one semester of higher education full-time study within the last 10 years;

OR

Successful completion of HBS101 Introduction to Human Physiology, and one of the following three Open Access Pathway subjects:

  • DTN101 Introduction to Nutrition;
  • CHM101 Essentials of Chemistry; or
  • PHE1UHW Understanding Health and Wellbeing.

OR

Successful completion of Undergraduate Certificate of Food and Nutrition (HCFN)

Applicant with Vocational Education and Training (VET) Study

Prerequisite:

VET studies at Certificate IV level or above within the last five years.

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Applicant with Work and Life Experience

Prerequisite:

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 or equivalent to be eligible to apply for this course.

Selection Criteria:

You may satisfy the academic requirements by completing the STAT multiple choice if you:

  • are not currently studying an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent);
  • have no prior secondary school (Year 12), VET studies, HE studies, or relevant work experience that can be considered for entry; or
  • do not meet the minimum academic requirements for the program.
