Youth Engagement Officer

Youth Engagement Officers run awareness and outreach programs to encourage young people in the community to improve their education, mental health, physical wellbeing, and social connections. They often work with vulnerable kids in target groups such as Indigenous and First Nations, LGBTIQA+, migrant backgrounds, incarcerated parents.

As a Youth Engagement Officer you could be reviewing the case file of a young person, speaking at an information evening for community stakeholders, listening to the concerns of a young girl, leading a youth group session, writing up case notes after a session with a client, or meeting with a social worker to discuss the safety of a young person experiencing domestic and family violence.

To succeed in this occupation you will need to be a naturally compassionate person with a strong sense of empathy and great listening skills.
