Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.

Undergraduate degree of 3 years minimum in a relevant area (see below), either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country, with a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65% or equivalent. This does not guarantee a place in the course, a place will depend upon student demand.

Minimum of one of the following relevant areas taken at a third year university level:

  • Commerce
  • Mathematics and/or Physics
  • Computer Science or Information Systems
  • Engineering and/or Science

Interviews will be required for applicants who are shortlisted.

In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree of 3 or 4 years minimum in one of the following relevant areas taken at a third year university level from a recognised institution; with a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65% or equivalent:

  • Commerce
  • Mathematics and/or Physics
  • Computer Science or Information Systems
  • Engineering and/or Science

The Selection Committee may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Academic Board Rules on the use of selection instruments.

Applicants are required to satisfy the university’s English language requirements for graduate courses. For those applicants seeking to meet these requirements by one of the standard tests approved by the Academic Board, performance band 7.0 is required.

English Language Criteria

An excellent command of English (copy of scores, where required)

  • IELTS score minimum requirement of 7.0 overall with no individual band less than 7.0
  • TOEFL IBT score minimum of 94(written score minimum of 27 and no band less than 24)
  • PTE overall score minimum of 65+, with writing skills of minimum 65 and no other communicative skill below 65.
