Swinburne’s world-class, industry-supported Master of Business Administration (MBA) develops your entrepreneurial and leadership strengths and prepares you to strategise, manage, and innovate organisations in ethical and socially responsible ways.

The Master of Business Administration focuses on leadership and change, innovation and entrepreneurship, finance, ethical practices and social responsibility. It equips students with the capacity to start new ventures or initiate organisational improvements successfully by building on authentic learning experiences and solutions-driven business scenarios. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain holistic management and business knowledge which prepares them for general management roles. The course design also allows the choice of electives to complete a related business specialisation such as supply chain management, project management and human resource management. Through the partnership with the Institute of Managers and Leaders, opportunities exist to participate in industry workshops, business case studies, mentoring, and personalised professional development.

International Business

Students must select up to four units from the list below:

  • BUS70013 Business Innovation in Europe Study Tour
  • This unit familiarises students with the issues, debates and processes of working and doing business in Europe, and its possible impact on Australia.

  • BUS70014 Business Innovation in America Study Tour
  • This unit provides a concrete appreciation and understanding of America and the approaches towards doing business and innovation in America.

  • BUS70015 Business Innovation in Asia Study Tour
  • This unit provides students with an appreciation of the workings of the Asian countries visited and of areas of Australian diplomatic and trade representation within Asia.

  • HRM70012 Managing Workplace Diversity and Inclusion
  • This unit introduces students to the roles diversity and inclusion have in enhancing the performance of employees and their organisation.

  • INB60003 International Trade and Investment
  • This unit aims to provide students with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches in international trade and investment issues.

  • INB60004 Global Business Cultures: Advanced Theories and Practices
  • This unit provides students with advanced knowledge to enable them to understand and be able to participate effectively and more competitively in global business environments.

  • MFP80002 International Internship
  • International Internship Experience is designed to provide post-graduate students with invaluable international work-experience utilising a real-world learning approach.

  • MFP80004 International Internship - Extended
  • International Internship Experience is designed to provide post-graduate students with invaluable international work-experience utilising a real-world learning approach.

  • SCM60003 Supply Chain Management
  • This unit provides an understanding and appreciation of the management of the supply chain, including critiquing global supply chain management principles and practices.

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to have completed one of the following:

  • a bachelor degree (or higher award) in any discipline from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent or
  • the Postgraduate Qualifying Program (available to International applicants only)

Applicants who have additional qualifications are eligible to enter the program with Advanced Standing and may be able to complete the program in less than two years.

1 year duration (full-time, or equivalent part-time)

Applicants who have completed one of the following may be able to complete the program in 1 year of full-time study (or equivalent part-time study):

  • the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration; or
  • an honours bachelor degree in a related discipline

1.5 year duration (full-time, or equivalent part-time)

Applicants who have completed one of the following may be able to complete the program in 1.5 years of full-time study (or equivalent part-time study):

  • a bachelor degree in a related discipline; or
  • a graduate certificate in a related discipline; or
  • a bachelor degree (or higher award) in any discipline and have two years relevant work experience* or
  • the Postgraduate Qualifying Program (available to International applicants only) PLUS either previous related discipline Higher Education Study, OR a minimum of two years relevant work experience*

  • the Postgraduate Qualifying Program (available to International applicants only) PLUS either previous related discipline Higher Education Study, OR a minimum of two years relevant work experience*

English language requirements

Satisfactory completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
  • Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
  • Or equivalent measures available at English language requirements.
