This degree will help you take your first step on the road to becoming a doctor. Through a combination of Team-based learning, small group practical and clinical skills sessions, plus extensive clinical placements and considerable online resources, you will develop the skills, knowledge and attributes necessary to succeed as an intern. As a graduate, you will be caring and competent and have a fundamental understanding of the science of medicine.

ou will develop communication skills and learn about the art and science of medicine in its wider social and ethical context. You will take part in extensive clinical placements in healthcare facilities ranging from rural settings through to the Gold Coast University Hospital and the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service. You will also develop an understanding of the importance of lifelong learning and learn how to be resourceful in seeking information and adapting to new technologies.

Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program Overview:

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Griffith University is a graduate entry program. All applicants must have completed or be in the final year of completing an undergraduate degree before they are eligible to apply for entry. Applicants from all degree backgrounds are encouraged.

Medical Selection Criteria:

  • Completion of a Bachelor degree or other 'key degree' with an overall GPA of 5.0 or above on a 7-point scale calculated using the GEMSAS schema.
  • Performance in the Graduate Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT) – minimum score of 50 in each GAMSAT section.
  • Performance in the Griffith University Multi Station Admissions Assessment (GUMSAA).

The GPA and GAMSAT scores (50:50) will be converted to a percentage score to rank applicants for selection for GUMSAA.

Language Requirements:

English language requirements apply to international applicants and those whose previous study was in a country other than Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom, the United States of America, or South Africa, or in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements are as follows:

  • IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum of 7.0 in each sub-score.
  • Occupational English Test (OET): Minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing, and speaking).
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 94 (listening 24, reading 24, writing 27, speaking 23).
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic): Minimum overall score of 65 with no score less than 65.
  • Successful completion of at least two years of secondary and entire tertiary studies taught and assessed solely in English from a recognised country*.
  • Successful completion of at least two years in the last five years of tertiary study taught and assessed solely in English from a recognised country* prior to commencement.

English test results must be no more than two years old.

*Recognised countries for English proficiency.
