In doing so, you will contribute new insights to the educational profession and open the door to a variety of professional pathways.

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You have completed a Master qualification (AQF Level 9 or overseas equivalent) with a minimum research component of 25%.
  • You have completed a Bachelor Honours qualification (AQF Level 8 or overseas equivalent) with a minimum result of upper second class honours or equivalent.
  • You have completed an AQF Level 8 or 9 qualification (or overseas equivalent), and you have had adequate relevant preparation since graduation.*
  • You have previously undertaken work of sufficiently high standard towards a higher degree by research (AQF Level 9 or 10, or overseas equivalent) at UNE which you have not submitted for any qualification, and you can produce documented evidence of capacity to undertake work at the Doctor of Education level.

You must also meet all of the following entry requirements:

  • You can satisfy the HDR coordinator that you have relevant experience in an education institution or in education services delivery.
  • You have completed an EdD research proposal and have received approval from the Head of School or relevant delegate.
  • You meet the English Language Requirements for all Higher Degree by Research candidates.

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5
  • Internet-based test (IBT): 91
  • Pearson PTE (Academic): 64

The English Language Requirements for admission into this course require all of the following:

  • At least one year of full-time (or equivalent) study resulting in a tertiary level Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) award or tertiary level award recognised by the Australian Department of Education.
  • English was the sole medium of instruction and assessment for the particular period of study claimed.
  • The study was completed within 5 years of the date of application for admission.
