Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)If you have a passion to nurse sick pets back to health, our veterinary nursing course provides you with comprehensive training in all aspects of the profession.
You can study either as an Off Campus, on-campus student or as a trainee from within a veterinary clinic. As an on-campus student, our veterinary nursing course includes a combination of online classes, practical classes on campus and practical rotations through the Pets on Elgar Veterinary Clinic. If you are in paid employment you can complete our course as an off campus student, with some practical workshops each term on campus, with support from our teachers.

Entry requirements
Domestic Students
- There are no mandated entry requirements.
To enrol in this course you must:
- already hold a Certificate II in Animal Studies (including some animal handling and not all theory based) or hold a relevant Certificate III or higher level qualification in an animal science discipline (including some animal handling and not all theory based) or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge in a relevant animal science discipline to any of the above qualifications
- have worked at least 3 to 6 months (continuous in the one clinic) as a veterinary nurse immediately prior to the course start date. This will means that you know your mentor and are familiar with the way the clinic functions. By having this time in the clinic we have found our students to be less overwhelmed and ready to start studying. You will also have completed your employment probation.
- have a minimum of 15 hours per week of voluntary or paid employment as a Veterinary Nurse for the duration of your course in the clinic in which you have completed 3 to 6 months prior to the course (this allows you to log enough hours to complete units each semester, rather than waiting til the end of your course, so even if you have to take a break from study you have units that are completed each semester)
