Barista Coffee & Food Handler’s Job Ready

Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)

This 2-day course will provide the skills and knowledge to enter Melbourne’s coffee elite? You will undertake in-depth barista coffee training, plus get your Food Handlers Certificate. You are required to hold food safety training to work in hospitality roles.

This course will give students the skills and knowledge to:

  • Coffee machine set-up and cleaning, using the grinder, and extraction techniques
  • How to make and serve espresso coffees
  • Techniques to texturise milk, and an introduction to latte art
  • Using the Point of Sale (POS), processing payments and completing reconciliation
  • Providing quality customer service to a range of customers, tips to exceed customer expectations, and how to handle complaints
  • Food Handling
  • After enrolment, you can access $20 OFF your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate

Outcomes 

  • Coffee Job Ready Statement of Participation
  • Food Handling Certificate – Level 1 (SITXFSA005 Usehygienic practices for food safety)

Assessments
Assessment for your Food Handler’s certificate will involve acombination of:

  • In class: Observation of performance
  • In-class: Oral questioning
  • Outside-class: Theory questions; including short answers, matching questions, multiple choice and case studies, completed online/digitally.

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.
  • Access to a computer and the internet to complete your Food Handler’s certificate
  • Digital skills to complete online assessments in English
  • Complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment as part of your enrolment, to ensure you can complete assessment requirements. You are able to:
    ◦ read and comprehend food safety policies and procedures.
    ◦ type long-answer questions without using translation services or artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): wear enclosed toe shoes with grip.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (e.g. making coffees at the machine)
