Nursing is the science of professional caring and offers opportunities to promote and restore health, prevent illness and alleviate suffering. In this degree, you will develop key skills for excellent nursing care.

You will develop your skills through clinical placements across the health sector and you will have opportunities to undertake rural, remote and overseas placements.

The Bachelor of Nursing includes multiple pathways. The degree requirements of each of the pathways are different and you will need to follow the requirements for your pathway to ensure your eligibility to graduate.

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.

Assumed Knowledge

English, English as an Additional Language, Literature or English and Literature Extension (Units 3 and 4, C)

Prior OP students: Applicants who graduated with an OP in or before 2019 can apply to Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) for an ATAR statement.

This program is not available to applicants who hold a qualification in Nursing acceptable for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

Trimester 1 intake is available for:

  • Standard program
  • OR graduates of the Diploma of Health Care from Griffith College (Diploma of Health Care pathway)
  • OR graduates of the Diploma of Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider with unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2), General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Note that registration under the AHPRA Pandemic Response Sub Register is not accepted. (Diploma of Nursing pathway)
  • OR an Internationally Qualified Nurse who provides documentary evidence with their application (Internationally Qualified Nurses pathway)

Trimester 2 intake is available for:

  • graduates of the Diploma of Health Care from Griffith College (Diploma of Health Care pathway)
  • OR graduates of the Diploma of Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider with unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2), General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Note that registration under the AHPRA Pandemic Response Sub Register is not accepted. (Diploma of Nursing pathway)*
  • OR an Internationally Qualified Nurse who provides documentary evidence with their application (Internationally Qualified Nurses pathway)^ Internationally Qualified Nurses must demonstrate recency of practice (within a period of five years) and have unconditional registration where they are working as a Registered Nurse. Note: We follow Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) guidelines regarding recency of practice. Applicants must have a minimum of 450 hours accumulated over the past five years. The hours do not need to be continuous.

Language Requirements

Applicants who hold registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) as an Enrolled Nurse and who have completed a Diploma in Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider meet the English language requirements.

English language requirements apply to applicants whose previous studies were completed in a country other than Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or the United States of America or undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • Successful completion of at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between Grades 7 and 12. This education must have been taught and assessed in English and completed in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America.
  • OR a minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 7.0
  • OR the Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
  • OR an overall score of 65 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 65
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum scores in each section of the test:
  • 24 for listening | 24 for reading | 27 for writing | 23 for speaking.

Trimester 1 and 2 intakes: Applicants for the Advanced standing pathways must:

  • hold a Diploma of Health Care from Griffith College
  • OR hold a Diploma of Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider and unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Note that registration under the AHPRA Pandemic Response Sub Register is not accepted.(Diploma of Nursing pathway)
  • OR are an Internationally Qualified Nurse and provide documentary evidence with their application.
