A Geographer analyses the Earth's physical characteristics, including landforms, climates, and ecosystems, while also studying human interaction with the environment. They may perform fieldwork, gather data through Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and contribute to urban planning, environmental management, or natural resource conservation.

Geographers often work in both government and private sectors, carrying out research, policy development, and spatial analysis​.
