Founded in 1969 by Kerry and Heather O’Sullivan, Trent had a humble beginning as a one-car driving school in Chatswood on Sydney’s North Shore.
In that competitive market, the O’Sullivans paid $1000, their entire life savings at the time, for a ¼ page ad in the Sydney Yellow Pages. What made them stand out was their mission to create safe drivers.
When Kerry first started as a driving instructor, the main focus was to teach people how to pass the test.
Eventually, Kerry had a student who thought he was ready for the driving test, despite still struggling during his lessons. Empathising with the young learner, Kerry gave in and let him try.
Surprisingly, he passed and got his licence.
Later, Kerry read a newspaper article about a pedestrian being run over. The driver of the vehicle was the same student who’d managed to get his licence before he was ready.
That incident was a turning point in Kerry’s career. He decided that his mission was no longer to simply teach people to pass a test, but to create safe drivers.
Trent Driving School was born.
In the TLI41222 course you will learn to provide training to learner drivers in a variety of situations to make them safe and proficient drivers. You will gain an understanding of how people learn and how to design and develop learning programs and create or source the tools needed to teach them. By the end of the course, you will be able to plan and present lessons and keep records of your students’ progress.
Trent Education will teach you the building blocks of driver training with their 54 instruction topics. Comprehensive lesson planning and assessment tools are provided for you to use. You will learn about running your driver training business as a sole trader or working for a school. You will acquire a full understanding of the RMS requirements for learner drivers and managing them through the testing period
