About Construction Industry Training Centre

This qualification applies to individuals working in a work health and safety (WHS) role who provide a broad range of technical knowledge, skills and have some limited responsibility for the output of others.

The qualification applies to those working as supervisors, WHS personnel, and workers in other WHS-related roles who manage risks effectively, apply relevant WHS laws, and contribute to WHS within the workplace in known or changing contexts with established parameters.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to conduct civil construction Excavator operations for a range of mandatory tasks, the fitting, use and removal of attachments and operator maintenance activities.

To provide the participant with a common understanding of WHS principles and practices used on Construction and Civil sites in Australia.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake Truck Mounted crane operations under 10-metre tonne capacity (Duty of Care).

To provide the participant with a duty of care in the safe operation of Scissor Lifts and a Boom Lift (Under 11 metres).

To provide the learner with the skills and knowledge to use, fit and safely store breathing apparatus.

The course combines a balance of facilitated theory and substantial on-road driving experiences that will reinforce the risks associated with driving a 4WD. This course provides valuable experience in hazard recognition methods and practical driving skills thus encouraging safe driving habits.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge required to work safely in confined spaces.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Erect and Dismantle Restricted Height Scaffolding up to 4 metres.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Forklift operations as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to conduct civil construction Front End Loader operations for a range of mandatory tasks, the fitting, use and removal of attachments and operator maintenance activities.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to conduct civil construction backhoe / loader operations for a range of mandatory tasks, the fitting, use and removal of attachments and operator maintenance activities.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to conduct civil construction Skid Steer Loader operations for a range of mandatory tasks, the fitting, use and removal of attachments and operator maintenance activities.

To provide the participant with the underpinning skills and knowledge to operate a telescopic materials handler.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Advanced Scaffolding as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Basic Scaffolding as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Intermediate Scaffolding as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Elevating Work Platform operation as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Bridge & Gantry Crane operations as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Non Slewing Mobile Crane operations as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

A Nationally Recognised Training Course of 2 days duration that is conducted utilising the 7th edition of the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by road or rail and the South Australian, Dangerous Substances (Dangerous Goods Transport) Regulations 2008. Successfully completing this course leads to applying for a Dangerous Goods Driver Licence from SafeWork SA.

To provide skills and knowledge required to load and unload goods and cargo, including loading and unloading goods, securing and protecting the load and completing all required documentation.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to Work Safely at Heights.

To provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Advanced Rigging as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake activities related to Hoist operation as defined by the WHS Regulations 2012.

To provide participants with outcomes required to recognise the health and safety factors, risks and hazards of working impaired and to plan for the implementation of safe systems of work aimed at prevention of impairment.

To provide participants with the outcomes required to recognise the workplace health and safety risks and hazards inherent in working with crystalline silica containing products and to determine and plan for the implementation of safe systems of work aimed at reducing exposure to within mandatory exposure limits.

The course combines a balance of facilitated theory and substantial on-road driving experiences that will reinforce the risks associated with operating a Commercial Vehicle. This course provides valuable experience in hazard recognition methods and practical driving skills thus encouraging safe driving habits.

To raise awareness among all workers in the construction industry about the risk of asbestos containing materials present in buildings and new imported building products and materials.

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake Pendant Crane (single hook) operation.
