Many of our original members formerly belonged to the Australasian branch of the British Ballet Organisation (London), which was established in 1936.
Ballet Australasia Ltd (BAL) was founded by those members who, after British Chairman Edward Kelland-Espinosa retired in the mid 1980’s, decided to form their own independent organisation administered entirely in Australia for the purpose of providing excellent teaching syllabi in all dance styles.
Foundation Directors Enid Hall and Dorothy Kerr BEM headed the new organisation, commissioning new Ballet and Tap syllabi, music and teaching aids from leading dance educators, to add to the existing Australian Jazz Ballet and National Character syllabi.
In 1994 BAL purchased permanent premises containing a studio and administrative headquarters in Surry Hills, Sydney.
This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in a variety of dance teaching contexts, including private dance studios. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyze and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have limited responsibility for the output of others.
