The HLTAID009 CPR first aid course provides students with the practical skills and essential knowledge required to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a casualty in a genuine medical emergency. Students are trained to apply the DRSABCD procedure to assess the scene of a potential medical emergency and provide an emergency first aid response – contacting emergency services, performing CPR, and attaching and operating an automated external defibrillator (AED) if needed.
They know how to follow established first aid procedures to minimise risks to themselves and others, and how to hand over to emergency services and provide a verbal assessment of the situation.
Students are given the chance to observe and attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation during the course, with the chance to practise on both an adult resuscitation manikin AND an infant resuscitation manikin. They will also gain practical experience using an AED.
