Provide basic emergency life support
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)This course provides you with the knowledge and training to provide basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on adults and children in situations of illness or injury. It increases your confidence and equips you with the skills to take control in emergencies and provide immediate help to a patient until paramedics arrive.
You will learn how to manage a cardiac arrest, perform CPR at the correct rate, and use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). This will ensure you can provide the patient with the best opportunity for survival.
You will also participate in a post-incident debrief and provide verbal reports to paramedics. These skills are applicable in workplaces, homes, and community settings and they assist in meeting workplace safety compliance.
The Australian Resuscitation Council advises that you should update this course every 12 months. The Code of Practice: First aid in the workplace advises that you should update this course every 3 year to maintain currency
