Nationally Recognised Higher EducationThe Master of Urban and Regional Planning is your pathway to the professional world of planning and is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia. It focuses on developing an understanding of the ways that cities and sites are constructed: physically, socially and environmentally. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in human geography, design or similar, seeking a professional education in urban and regional planning. It is also ideal for graduates of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments or for those working in the field who wish to expand their knowledge and skills.

- There are no mandated entry requirements.
Qualifications
Mandatory for course entry
Admission to the Master of Urban and Regional Planning requires:
- a bachelor's degree in design, human geography, or related field from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification with a credit average mark across all units; or
- completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate diploma with a WAM of at least 70.
If English is your first language, you may be able to meet the English language requirements if you have;
- citizenship or permanent long-term residency (minimum ten years), AND
- completed secondary or higher education (tertiary) studies recognized by the University in an approved English-speaking country
Previous study in an English-speaking country
You must have a minimum of two years of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) in a recognized bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the English-speaking countries below, within five years of course commencement.
Previous study in a non-English-speaking country
You will meet the English language requirements if you can provide proof of previous study that shows you have completed either:
- an undergraduate degree in English
- a postgraduate degree in English
You must have a minimum three-year recognized undergraduate degree conducted entirely in English and in which the language of instruction (teaching, assessment, and examination) was English, within five years of course commencement.
You must have a minimum two-year recognized postgraduate degree conducted entirely in English and in which the language of instruction (teaching, assessment, and examination) was English, within five years of course commencement.
If English is not your first language, you may be able to prove English proficiency with an approved English skills test taken within 2 years of commencing the course.
Required scores:
- IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
- TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
- Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
