Qualifications

Mandatory for course entry

Admission to candidature for the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) requires:

  1. a relevant Australian bachelor's degree (Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate) or equivalent qualification; and
  2. evidence of the ability to meet the required prerequisite knowledge in relation to human development and of society; and
  3. evidence of relevant employment history in the human and community services industry (generally evidence of at least 2 years is required).

In exceptional circumstances, the Dean may admit applicants without a bachelor's degree who, in the opinion of the faculty, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award. This may include evidence through publications or authorship of official documents.

English language requirements

Mandatory for course entry

You may need to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study with us. Find out which requirements are applicable to you below:

English is my first language

If English is your first language, you may be able to meet the English language requirements if you have;

  • citizenship or permanent long-term residency (minimum ten years), AND
  • completed secondary or higher education (tertiary) studies recognized by the University in an approved English-speaking country

English is NOT my first language

English language skills test

If English is not your first language, you may be able to prove English proficiency with an approved English skills test taken within 2 years of commencing the course.

Required scores:

  • IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.5 overall and a minimum result of 7.0 in each band
  • TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 105 overall including a minimum result of 23 in Reading, Listening, and Speaking and 25 in Writing
  • Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 76 overall and a minimum result of 68 in each band
