Master of Public Health (Advanced Practice) Core subjects: These are required subjects in your course. You need to complete these subjects to attain your degree.
- ACADEMIC INTEGRITY MODULE: The academic integrity module introduces academic integrity standards to inform and support students in avoiding plagiarism and academic misconduct.
- EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS: This subject will provide you with an understanding of the role of epidemiology and biostatistics in public health.
- HEALTH PROMOTION STRATEGY AND PRACTICE: Health promotion is a key field of practice in public health, drawing on a range of scientific disciplines and demanding an understanding of systems thinking.
- HEALTH SYSTEMS: This subject focuses on understanding the complexity of health care systems around the world through comparing and contrasting their aims and visions, how they are designed, underlying rationales, policies in the context of societal needs and resource demands.
- PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC HEALTH: In this subject, you will gain insight into major transition points in the health and equity of populations globally, determinants of health, the principles of public health, and current and future challenges for public health.
- PUBLIC HEALTH RESPONSES: The public health workforce requires sound knowledge and skills for anticipating and responding to public health risks, disasters, and emergencies.
- SOCIAL AND CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES IN PUBLIC HEALTH: In this subject, you will explore the multi-disciplinary partnerships between public health and social science disciplines, especially sociology and anthropology.
- SYSTEMS THINKING AND LEADERSHIP: Whether dealing with public health issues or trying to improve the performance of a hospital, many of the issues are complex, seemingly embedded within a web of interconnected and often contested causes.

Academic entry requirement
Prerequisites
240 credit point pathway – Non-cognate Entry - (2 years): Successful completion of a 3 year Australian Bachelor degree (or its equivalent).
180 credit point pathway - Cognate Entry - (1.5 years): Successful completion of a 3 year Australian Bachelor degree (or its equivalent) in a cognate health field plus two years of relevant work experience.
Prior learning developed through relevant work experience or professional accreditation, where it is deemed to be at least equivalent to that obtained through a Bachelor degree, may be considered. In making an offer to an applicant, the University will give consideration to a range of factors, including academic record, English proficiency and/or employment experience.
Core participation requirements
- Behavioural and relational skills: Public health students must demonstrate interpersonal communication skills, manage personal responses, beliefs and preferences such that they can work with diverse population groups and within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Cognition: Public health students must be able to locate, acquire, retain and apply knowledge in a range of settings, and with relevant population groups to meet their changing health needs and problem-solve solutions.
English language requirement
6.5 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 6.0.
