Entry requirements

The Master of Information Technology caters equally to those with a limited IT background looking for in-depth technical and theoretical education and those with strong experience in the domain. Depending on your work experience and undergraduate qualification, you may be eligible for credit to the course to reduce it to either an 18 month (150 point) or 12 month (100 point) full-time program.

200 point program

This degree is for students without work experience. The first 50 points (one semester equivalent) of subjects are chosen to fill in gaps in knowledge from your prior course of study.

  • Any undergraduate degree
  • With a weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%), or equivalent *
  • One technical subject focused on computer programming (taken at any tertiary year level)
  • Include a detailed syllabus for any programming subjects undertaken. Your syllabus must contain as much detail as possible so that you can be assessed for entry into the program.

150 point program

Up to 50 points of credit may be awarded to applicants who have:

  • A three-year undergraduate degree with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related discipline
  • With a weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%) or equivalent *

100 point program

Up to 100 points of credit may be awarded to applicants who have:

  • A four-year undergraduate degree with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related discipline
  • With a weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%) or equivalent * and either:
  • Studies in the area of specialisation at an advanced undergraduate level or higher; or
  • Two years of documented relevant work experience in the area of specialisation.

Documentation of work experience

If you are applying for the 100-point program on the basis of relevant work experience, your application must include documentary evidence (such as a letter from your current or previous employer on letterhead) that confirms the nature of the work, its duration, its full-time or part-time status and your position or role. This documentary evidence must be an original or original certified copy.

English language requirements

  • IELTS (academic English Only): 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet-based test*: 79 + Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13
  • Pearson Test of English Academic: 58 + no communicative skill below 50
  • Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 + no skill below 169
