  • LANGUAGE AWARENESS FOR SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHERS
This course aims to sensitise students to the structure of language, with a particular focus on English. Students learn some key terms and tools with which to analyze the features of written and spoken text. The course also aims to raise students' awareness of some of the difficulties speakers of other languages may have with English. It provides a foundation for further personal language awareness development.
  • UNDERSTANDING THE LANGUAGE LEARNER
This course examines the nature of language learning with reference to theories of human learning and applied linguistics. In doing so, it investigates a host of variables pertaining to linguistic, cognitive, metacognitive, and social-cognitive aspects of language learners. It also facilitates the knowledge of research methods and analytical tools used for the study of these aspects in relation to language learning and acquisition. Students will be given opportunities to examine and analyze published and/or authentic data that demonstrate their knowledge in terms of the content areas covered in the course.
  • SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHING IN PRACTICE (INTERNSHIP)
This course introduces students to the practice of second language teaching. It does this through a combination of lectures/workshops together with classroom observation of practicing second language teachers. To facilitate their observation, students will be introduced to techniques of classroom-based research. They will use these techniques to focus on major issues which arise in the second language classroom. Students will use their developing understanding of second language teaching to plan and teach classes for second language learners.
  • SECOND LANGUAGE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
This course aims to provide students with an understanding of major contemporary issues in the field of second language curriculum development.
