Nationally Recognised Higher Education

Build on your existing health and medicine qualifications and advance your skills for a variety of settings. JCU’s Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education equips appropriately qualified nurses and allied health professionals with a greater capacity to provide diabetes-oriented services to patients.

This diabetes education degree has a strong focus on the clinical issues faced by Diabetes Educators practicing in rural and remote communities. As you complete this 8-month (part-time) course, you will gain skills in cultural competency and appropriateness when providing diabetes care to Australia’s First Nations people, a demographic with increasing numbers of diabetes diagnoses.

The Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education has four core subjects: Health Education and Self-Management; Foundations of Clinical Diabetes; Applied Clinical Diabetes Education; and Diabetes Education Professional Practice. You will have opportunities to apply and advance your knowledge during clinical placement alongside leading industry professionals.

As a graduate of the Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education you’ll be eligible to gain accreditation with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA). Make a difference in the lives of those affected by or at risk of diabetes. JCU Diabetes Education graduates are valued, highly sought-after health professionals.
