HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing

This popular course will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills you need to register as an enrolled nurse or create a pathway to university.

Our experienced team of trainers will teach you about anatomy and physiology, communication skills, medical terminology, infection control, legal and ethical issues associated with nursing, nursing patients with complex needs, administering medications, and nursing patients with mental health needs. Our partnerships with Barwon Health, St John of God Hospital, and other healthcare providers also provide excellent work placement and employment opportunities.

This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Upon completing your studies, you will be eligible to register as an enrolled nurse with the NMBA.

Work Placement

Students will need to complete work placement supervised by qualified staff. Students will attain real-world understandings of the expectations and skills required to work in this field to prepare you for the workforce.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must be 18 years and over at the time of course commencement
  • Working with Children Check & Police Check required for industry work placement
  • Up to date immunisation/vaccination record
  • The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) under Standard 6.1 require that applicants are informed of the following before accepting an offer of enrolment: students that would be required by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to provide a formal English language skills test when applying for registration, must provide a formal English language test result demonstrating they have achieved the NMBA specified level of English language skills, prior to commencing the program.
  • When responding to application questions, please be aware that your application is scored against a set of criteria to help determine if this program is a good match for your abilities, experience and goals. Therefore, it is important that you provide detailed and clear responses to each of the application questions.
  • Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 11 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 4 to meet the academic requirements for the course.
  • To be eligible to apply for a VET Student Loan applicants will be required to:
    • undertake an independent assessment test to ensure they possess Level 3 in reading and numeracy, or
    • provide their Year 12 certificate, or
    • provide evidence of completion of a Certificate IV or above.

The reading, writing and numeracy task will be conducted during a face to face session, under supervision, at either the Geelong city campus or Watton St, Werribee campus. You will be sent details of these sessions and booking arrangements once you have completed the first phase of the application online.

These sessions will also be opportunity for you to learn more about the course, including a tour of our practical workplace simulation facilities.

  • You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Free TAFE. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.

Each student must complete a pre-training review as part of their application. The outcome of your pre-training review assists our teachers and trainers to better understand your capabilities prior to training and enables you to be matched to the right program. Your literacy and numeracy skills will be evaluated and you may be required to undertake a separate assessment.
