Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services.
They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.
Under the National Quality Framework, 50% of educators required to meet the relevant ratios in a centre based service working with children preschool age and under, must have or be actively working towards an approved Diploma level education and care qualification.
All other educators required to meet the relevant ratios at the service must have or be actively working towards an approved Certificate III level education and care qualification.
Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au .
After successfully completing the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care course, students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

Work Placement
Students must be willing to undertake a minimum of 280 hours of unpaid vocational placement. The college organises students’ vocational placement locations. However, students can select vocational placement locations by themselves. The college will assess the suitability of placement locations. Entry requirements
Domestic Students
- There are no mandated entry requirements.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Successful completion of Year 12, (High School Certificate (HSC) OR equivalent) OR a Certificate III OR equivalent OR be a mature age.
- Completion of CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care with SAI.
- Students need to demonstrate that they have a proficiency in English and a basic understanding of Maths. For students who cannot supply documented proof on their academic and English language proficiency, they will be required to sit a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Test prior to a place being offered in the course.
Additional Requirements for all Students
- Students must undertake a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check prior to commencing their work placement.
- From the 1st July 2019, a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) will replace the current system where people can have either national police check assessment done by an employer or a DHS screening.
- For students who have e a current, valid DCSI/DHS screening clearance for child-related employment, it will be recognised under the new laws until it expires. You do not need to do anything until it is time to renew your current check.
- Please note: Mature students, who do not meet the admission requirements listed above, may be allowed entrance on the basis of their work experience.
