Diploma of Arts
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)The Diploma of Arts provides you with opportunities to interpret human culture and behaviour from different perspectives and periods. Your studies will explore today’s big questions. You'll learn how to support the social and economic development of the human race and/or to be immersed in creativity, performance and innovation.

- There are no mandated entry requirements.
Applicants Who Have Recently Completed Secondary Education (In the Past Two Years)
Applicants are ranked by ATAR, and offers are made based on the number of places available. In 2021, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 87.10. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.
Applicants for the Theatre and Performance major who have not met the ATAR requirement may be asked to undertake an audition or interview in order to be admitted to the course.
For all other majors, if you do not receive the minimum ATAR, please refer to Alternative entry pathways below.
Domestic Applicants with Higher Education Study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have:
- Completed a course at Diploma level or higher at any Australian higher education provider (or an equivalent overseas qualification); or
- Completed at least one unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) of a course at Diploma level (or an equivalent overseas qualification). If you have failed any units, your application may be subject to further review before an offer is made; or
- Completed the Diploma of University Studies; or
- Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program, or an equivalent enabling program offered by another Australian university.
Domestic Applicants with VET / TAFE Study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have:
- Completed a Certificate III (or equivalent qualification) in a related field; or
- Completed a Certificate IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma (or an equivalent qualification) in any field.
Domestic Applicants with Work and Life Experience
If you have not successfully completed senior secondary, tertiary, or TAFE/VET study, but have relevant work and life experience, you can complete a personal competency statement. You may be eligible for an offer if you have work and life experiences that demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.
Special Consideration
If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors, including economic hardship, serious medical conditions, or disability.
We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.
