Diploma in Languages
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)The Diploma of Languages prepares students for the increasingly multilingual and international life of the 21st century. You will be taken on a language learning journey designed to facilitate in-depth engagement with the linguistic and cultural aspects of your chosen language or languages. You can choose to study a wide selection of languages, many of which are not available at any other university in Australia. You can complete the Diploma by doing the equivalent of a major in one language (8 courses), or, for those who have prior learning, by doing an Advanced minor (4 courses) in one language as well as either a second minor (4 courses) in another language or four other language-related courses from those listed under the Program Requirements.

- There are no mandated entry requirements.
Admission Requirements
At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry.
In line with the university's admissions policy and strategic plan, an assessment for admission may include competitively ranking applicants on the basis of specific academic achievement, English language proficiency, and diversity factors.
School leavers will be assessed on:
- the minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) requirement or equivalent for this program,
- the co-curricular or service requirement, and
- any program specific requirements that are listed below.
Non-school leavers will be assessed on:
the minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) requirement; OR
An equivalent rank derived from the following qualifications:
- A completed Associate Diploma, Associate Degree, AQF Diploma, Diploma, AQF Advanced Diploma, Graduate Certificate or international equivalent; OR
- At least one standard full-time year (1.0 FTE) in a single program of degree level study at an Australian higher education institution or international equivalent; OR
- An approved tertiary preparation course unless subsequent study is undertaken.
Please note:
- Language course requisites mean this program can normally only be undertaken on a part-time basis.
- This program is not available to International students in Australia on a student visa (sub class 500).

Adjustment Factors
Adjustment factors are additional points added to an applicant's Selection Rank (for example an applicant's ATAR). ANU offers adjustment factors based on performance and equity principles, such as for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies.
Selection Rank adjustments are granted in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustment factors and maximum 10 equity-based adjustment factors) can be awarded.
You may be considered for adjustment factors if you have:
- applied for an eligible ANU Bachelor degree program
- undertaken Australian Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate
- achieved an ATAR or equivalent at or above 70
- not previously attempted tertiary study.
