This course is an extension of HLTAID003 Provide first aid. It equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to modify their approach if required to provide effective first aid to a person with a disability affecting their body systems and/or mobility, e.g. a person who is in a bed or wheelchair.

This course provides skills and knowledge to apply modified techniques where the first aid response differs between an able-body and a person with a disability. In addition, it includes the ability to recognise and report that a patient may be severely depressed or suicidal.
