The Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal) provides certificate holders with the following entitlements:
- Ability to serve as Chief Engineer on a vessel with propulsion power less than 750 kW within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
- Ability to serve as Second Engineer on a vessel with propulsion power less than 1500 kW within the EEZ.
- Ability to serve as an assistant under the direct supervision of the chief engineer or in the engine room of a vessel up to 80m long with propulsion power up to 3,000 kW.
