University of New England

Bachelor of Science (Microbiology)

Nationally Recognised Higher Education

Constant technological disruption and new discoveries in science influence every aspect of our lives, meaning that there has never been a better time than now to safeguard your future career with scientific knowledge and practical skills.

Complete 12 credit points from the following units:

  • Quantitative Skills with Applications (MTHS110): Mathematical models appear throughout the natural and social sciences. For example, growth of both cell populations and money can be modelled using exponential functions.
  • Calculus and Linear Algebra 1 (MTHS120): In an increasingly data-driven world, the importance of quantitative skills has never been greater. This unit is ideal if you do not have a strong mathematical background or you would like a refresher in foundational topics.
  • Calculus and Linear Algebra 2 (MTHS130): Advanced calculus techniques are an essential tool for scientists modelling complex systems, from electromagnetic oscillations to the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Introduction to Statistical Modelling (STAT100): Innovation in diverse scientific contexts, from livestock experiments to analysis of Martian soils, relies on statistics. Statistical methods are used universally to better understand the importance of observations and experiments, and to help us to investigate and explain the ways complex systems work.

And complete the following units:

  • Introduction to Biology: Cells and Life (BIOL110) – 6 credit points
  • Organisms to Ecosystems (BIOL120) – 6 credit points
  • Chemistry I (CHEM110) – 6 credit points
  • Chemistry II (CHEM120) – 6 credit points
