An Honours year in Health Sciences will open doors to exciting career opportunities. You will develop new skills and knowledge as you work with experts contributing to research that matters. You can undertake your Honours in Health Sciences in the health discipline of your choice including nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, optometry, nutrition and exercise science. Working with experienced researchers you will help facilitate change and influence health care practice leading to better health systems, better care, and better lives.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements:

The Honours degree in the fourth year is only available to start in Semester 1, therefore students who commence their studies mid-year will need to delay their Honours program by one semester.

Entry into one-year Honours is highly competitive. If you have demonstrated academic excellence (a Grade Point Average of 5.00 or above) during your bachelor degree, you are invited to apply for Honours.

Admission requirements:

Applicants must normally hold an undergraduate Health Sciences degree or equivalent or an undergraduate degree in a Health Profession (e.g. an Allied Health discipline, Paramedicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Health Education, Exercise Science, Human Movement, Nutrition, Public Policy, Public Health, Primary Health Care, Epidemiology, Psychology, Disability and Developmental Education) from an approved tertiary institution.

In addition, applicants must normally have achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0 in the degree.

Admission to Honours is subject to the College being able to provide appropriate resources and staff to supervise their program of study.

International students must satisfy our English language proficiency requirements for admission. If your first language is not English, you will need to have:

  • Achieved the required test score for the course you are applying for. The IELTS and equivalent scores to meet the various levels are shown in the table below. IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and Cambridge tests must be taken in a registered testing centre; or
  • Successfully completed an approved secondary or tertiary qualification, taught in the English language in a country where English is the official language or the main language spoken (for up to an overall IELTS of 6.5) with evidence no more than five years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or
  • Successfully completed a pre-course English program from an approved ELICOS Provider*.
