Nationally Recognised Higher EducationIn today’s fast-moving and complex business environment, those with advanced technical skills in accounting, analytics, economics, finance, information systems and marketing insights will find themselves in demand across a wide range of sectors. A knowledge of commerce is also increasingly valuable in careers such as health, law, psychology, science and technology.
In the Bachelor of Commerce, you’ll study a set of extensive and integrated foundation units that will orient you to commerce and business, followed by one or two majors to develop depth and specialisation in your chosen discipline. You’ll also acquire a set of sought-after employability skills – data literacy, business analysis, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, critical thinking and a global mindset, among others – all key competencies that today’s top employers regard extremely highly.

I’ve recently completed Year 12
If you’re currently undertaking, or have just completed Year 12 studies, and you apply to Macquarie through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), you’ll be assessed on your selection rank or through our Academic Entry Program. You might also consider applying for our Macquarie Leaders and Achievers Early Entry Scheme, the Schools Recommendation Scheme or the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry Pathway if you’re eligible.
I have work and life experience
If you’re a non-Year 12 applicant and you don’t hold any formal education qualifications, but you do have informal learning and work experience, you may submit a portfolio for entry into one of our pathway programs, which allow you to articulate into a Macquarie degree after successfully completion.
I have TAFE, college or university qualifications
Macquarie recognises completed TAFE, college and university qualifications. If you’ve completed a recognised qualification, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of prior learning (RPL).
Assumed knowledge
For business analytics, economics, finance majors: HSC Mathematics Advanced or equivalent. For accounting, business information systems, cyber security governance, human resource management, international business, marketing, and marketing insights and analytics majors: HSC Mathematics Standard 2 or equivalent. If you don't have the assumed knowledge, you're advised to include a mathematics or quantitative methods elective unit in your first year of study.
Recommended studies
For accounting, business information systems majors: HSC Mathematics Advanced or equivalent. For finance major: HSC Mathematics Extension 1 or equivalent.
English language requirements
When applying to study at Macquarie University, you’re required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.
You may satisfy the English language requirements if you’ve completed:
- senior secondary studies equivalent to the New South Wales HSC
- at least one year of full-time Australian or comparable tertiary study in a country of qualification.
The required standard of English for this degree is:
- IELTS band: Overall 6.5
