Nationally Recognised Higher EducationClassical Latin is important for the study not only of the Greco-Roman world, but also of the languages, ideas, and literature of pre-modern and modern societies, especially those of Europe, the UK, USA, and Australia. Latin language and literature lasted into the 19th and 20th centuries for treatises of fundamental importance in science, medicine, diplomacy and law. This major is ideal for students studying a dual program, as it will enhance studies in law, sciences, politics, and languages. You could study Introductory Latin, The Rise of Ancient Rome: Roman History to the Death of Augustus, The Roman Empire: Politics and Society and, Latin Language and Literature 1

Our subject prerequisites are listed as Queensland Year 12 General subjects, but you can also meet them by passing equivalent subjects through:
- Australian high school, including Queensland Senior, interstate Year 12 or International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Overseas high school or International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Tertiary study, including university subjects, and bridging and preparatory programs./li>
- Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent)
- General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
- IB 24.5
- IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ
- TOEFL IBT - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
- TOEFL PB - Overall 570, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5.
- Pearsons - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.
- BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
- CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
- International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB):
- English English B (SL/HL); English A Literature (HL/SL); English A - English Language & Literature (HL/SL); English A1 (SL/HL); English A2(HL/SL)
- Grade requirement IB Completed Diploma; a grade of 3 in HL subjects; a grade of 4 in SL subjects
