Combining coursework and research in your chosen interest area, Honours fosters a spirit of excellence by taking your knowledge to the next level.
The coursework component focuses on refining your ability to carry out critical evaluation and research in humanities and social sciences, while developing employability skills in time and project management, problem-solving and oral and written communication. For the research component, you'll be mentored by La Trobe's expert staff to complete a thesis in your chosen interest area.
By graduating with Honours, you'll not only gain an edge in an increasingly competitive job market, you could have the opportunity to advance to further coursework or research at Master's or PhD level.

- There are no mandated entry requirements.
Academic level
Applicants should have achieved at least a 70% average in their pass degree course, preferably with several A grades within their intended Honours discipline or area of study. They should have achieved at least an average of 70% at the third year level of the pass degree. Students who expect to meet these entry criteria and who wish to be admitted into the Honours program should consult with the Honours coordinator and staff in their academic area about the possibilities for coursework study, a potential supervisor for their thesis, and any other pre-conditions that disciplines or area studies may have.
Honours in your major
You may be eligible to complete Honours in a major completed as part of your undergraduate degree. Your eligibility is subject to the availability and agreement of a suitable supervisor for the major and you meeting the entry requirements specific to that major.
