Don't feel like you have to be a professional fortune teller and try to read the tea leaves to understand your prospects in the job market. The good folks at the Australian government have done it for you.

With the release of the 2019 Australian Jobs report, those in the workforce or looking to start a career have the opportunity to peek inside the stats and learn about the current trends characterising the country's professional landscape. So, just what are Australia's fastest growing industries and how can you get involved? Read on to find out.

Time to skill up

As if you needed another reason to study online in Australia, the 2019 Australian jobs report shows that skilled labour is rising, with no indication it will stop anytime soon. According to the report, more than two-thirds of Australian workers hold post-school qualifications, meaning some level of certificate or degree.

There are more employers searching for employees with such qualifications. Luckily it's easier for more Australians to have the opportunity to earn post-school qualifications. In addition to the fantastic brick-and-mortar institutions around the country, taking courses online is becoming a more viable solution. A single parent can pursue an online Certificate IV in Mental Health; a young man or woman in a rural community kilometres away from a traditional course providers can still work towards a Diploma of Website Development.

The industries to target

Some of Australia's fastest-growing jobs are already some of the most popular. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector employs nearly 1.7 million Australians as of November 2018. The report states that number will continue to rise, as it remains the country's fastest growing sector. That's good news for those undergoing the Certificate III in Community Services and other similar degrees.

Similarly, construction is responsible for employing more than a million Aussies and is slated to continue growing in the next five years.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the report is centred around the Professional, Scientific and Technical Services sector. As you can imagine, many of these jobs are highly skilled positions. This makes the government's emphasis on funding focused on STEM learning all the more important.

The outlook for jobs in Education and Training is also rosy.
